A dynamic, “expressive” presenter with a multitude of creative, excellent ideas.”
Responses from participants at the GETCA conference 2004
This seminar is designed to introduce teachers and choral directors to an innovative vocal methodology in which expressivity and total body engagement is integrated into a regular regime of vocal exercises; unlocking the individual’s creative and communicative vocal spirit. Both new and established teachers will leave this seminar exhilarated and inspired after having personally experienced this dynamic approach to vocal training. Past participants have immediately grasped how this unique method can be utilized to inspire a student’s understanding of what is meant by breath energy and how to fully access and develop an expressive, resonant tone.
Participants will recognize how this new approach can help the student develop awareness of physical entanglements or patterns that do not serve their artistry, and how the exercises can break these patterns developing physical freedom, exceptional posture, and greater breath flexibility. Most importantly this methodology understands that each singer brings to their singing a specific expressive vocabulary. This is a learned pattern that needs to be understood, explored and expanded. Expressivity fuels the engagement of breath and how we communicate ideas but this impulse is often trained out of the singer as she focuses on developing “the perfect” tone. This seminar will not only address this problem but will provide countless, practical exercises to develop and expand a singer’s expressive vocabulary while they are in the formative, developmental stages. These easy, fun and proven techniques will completely shift the way in which teachers train, unleashing the incredible potential of young vocal artists!
